getting involved
How can I support the Campaign for the Coolidge?
The success of this project is possible only because generous donors have stepped up to ensure the Coolidge will continue to serve audiences for many years to come. We are asking our audience and donor community to consider a stretch gift to the Campaign for the Coolidge. A stretch gift means different things to different people, but because this campaign is for a capital project it means gifts can be pledged with payments up to three years. The largest gift to this campaign to date is $1.3 million.
If you’d like to discuss a leadership gift, a pledge, or naming opportunities, please contact development@coolidge.org or 617-734-2501.

Gifts to the campaign do not replace annual memberships or other donations (we need that support to keep doing the work we currently do!)—but if you would like to bundle everything into one gift, we would be happy to work with you. Please contact development@coolidge.org to structure a gift that can be pledged over a three-year plan.
Timing
When will construction begin? Will the Coolidge be closed during this time?
Construction officially started in November 2021 and we are anticipating a late 2023 opening date. Work will occur on weekdays from approximately 7 am to 4 pm. Weekday matinees will be on hiatus during the construction, but otherwise the Coolidge will remain open for business as usual (7 days a week). To view showtimes or purchase tickets, please visit coolidge.org.
Parking
What about parking during construction—and beyond?
Please note that access to the 12 spaces immediately behind the theatre, as well as the alleyway behind the S.S. Pierce building is currently restricted and will remain so throughout construction. The expansion project is a major undertaking so construction vehicles, trailers and refuse receptacles will be present during much of this time.
We understand that parking in Coolidge Corner can be challenging during the best of times. We encourage our audiences to walk, bike, use a ride-sharing service (such as Lyft or Uber), or take public transportation whenever possible. If you do plan to drive and are looking for additional parking options, we recommend trying the parking garage at the Courtyard Marriott on Webster Street or the public lot on Babcock Street.
but wait…
I LOVE THE COOLIDGE AS IT IS!
What kind of changes are we talking about here?
The Coolidge is committed to maintaining the unique character of our existing historic theater and has worked closely with the architect (Höweler + Yoon) to ensure a seamless and respectful integration of the old and the new. It’ll still be the Coolidge you love—only better!
When the expansion is complete, we’ll be able to offer more of the award-winning programs you’ve come to know and love, more educational opportunities, and more flexible space for community use... more of everything that makes the Coolidge the Coolidge. The expansion will include:
New entrances and an expanded lobby to accommodate indoor ticket sales and more space for concessions
Two new state-of-the-art theaters: Moviehouse 5, which will have 149 seats and a small stage, and Moviehouse 6, with 57 seats
The new Community Education and Engagement Center, a flexible classroom and event space with an adjacent catering kitchen and outdoor roof deck
A media library of film books, films on Blu-rays, and Coolidge memorabilia, including the Jay Carr Film Library collection
Improved accessibility for patrons with disabilities, including a new elevator
Additional family and unisex restrooms
Updates to our current facility, including new carpeting and paint, improved lighting, and modernized electrical systems, HVAC, and restrooms
A permanent endowment fund to secure the Coolidge’s financial future, launched by a generous donor
